Professional experience

Sergey specializes in complex cross-border disputes, including interstate matters, commercial arbitration and litigation. He has represented states, companies and private clients in courts, governmental agencies and leading arbitration institutions, including LMAA, SAC, HKIAC, LCIA.

Sergey’s has particular experience in oil and gas, energy and complex engineering disputes, as well as financial disputes, including insurance and restructuring matters.

Sergey's relevant experience includes representing:

Ukraine in investment arbitration initiated by Emergofin B.V. and Velbay Holdings Ltd. under ICSID Arbitration Rules 2006 in connection with the alleged expropriation of their majority stake in the Zalk aluminium plant (ICSID Case No. ARB/16/35);
A sovereign state in an LCIA arbitration in connection with an alleged breach by the issuer of the terms of sovereign Eurobonds;
The Arab Republic of Egypt in investment arbitration initiated by Ampal-American Israel Corp., EGI-Fund (08-10) Investors LLC, EGI-Series Investments LLC, BSS-EMG Investors LLC and David Fischer under ICSID Arbitration Rules 2006 in connection with the termination of a long-term agreement for the supply of gas to Israel (ICSID Case No. ARB/12/11);
EDF Energies Nouvelles in an arbitration against the Kingdom of Spain arising out of the measures taken by the state affecting the solar power industry (PCA Case No. AA613);
A group of Russian fishing companies in an LMMA arbitration against an Asian reefer vessels fleet operator in a dispute arising out of a multi-year Contract for Affreightment governed by English law:
One of the biggest Russian bank in the insolvency proceedings of the construction company, registered in Saudi Arabia;
A Swiss bank in an arbitration (SIAC) and associated domestic proceedings in England, the Netherlands and Cyprus against a CIS energy company in a dispute related to a credit facility governed by English law;
A Swiss commodities trader in a dispute with a Russian insurer related to a multibillion dollar bankruptcy of a major Russian oil refinery;
Mobile operator Korek Telecom (Iraq) in arbitration proceedings worth over US$500 million against a subsidiary of Kuwaiti logistics group Agility;
AS PNB Banka, Grigory Guselnikov and others in investment arbitration against the Republic of Latvia under ICSID Arbitration Rules 2006 in connection with sanctions imposed on the claimants’ bank for its alleged failure to comply with anti-money laundering and terrorist-financing regulations (ICSID Case No. ARB/17/47);
A Middle Eastern national oil and gas company in a dispute with a European oil and gas company regarding an oil and gas field in the Persian Gulf;
A Middle Eastern energy company in a dispute with a Norther European energy company in relation to a joint venture in the Gulf region;
A private equity fund and its founder in an ICC arbitration initiated by the fund’s alleged general partner.
