‍Advisory and Representation in Inter-State Disputes

Resolut advises and represents clients in public international law matters involving issues of treaty interpretation, State responsibility, and questions of jurisdiction and admissibility. Our lawyers represented clients in proceedings before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and in arbitration under Annex VII to the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
Inter-State Disputes require rigorous legal analysis, persuasive written and oral advocacy, and a deep understanding of the public international law (PIL) jurisprudence. Our work in public international law and in complex international disputes involving States provides a strong foundation for advising on and conducting the most complex PIL mandates.

Our Approach

Our ICJ-related work is grounded in extensive experience with disputes in which tribunalsand courts are required to apply and interpret public international law. This includes deep familiarity with:
Treaty interpretation under the Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties
Customary international law and principles of State responsibility and attribution
Disputes arising out of sovereign regulatory, legislative, or executive acts
The management of complex factual, documentary, and expert evidence in international proceedings
Jurisdictional and admissibility questions, including consent to jurisdiction and procedural preconditions
Many of these issues are also central to international investment arbitration and other public- international-law disputes, where our lawyers regularly address the conduct of States and State entities, jurisdictional objections, and interactions between domestic and international law. This experience is deeply informative to our PIL work, both at the strategic level and in the preparation of written and oral pleadings.
Where appropriate, we work alongside specialist ICJ counsel or as part of broader international teams, ensuring seamless integration of advocacy, legal analysis, and case strategy.
